We woke up to rain…..lots of rain. After weighing our options, we voted to don some rain ponchos and take the Tourmobile tour of the District. This was Whitney’s first time there, so the Tourmobile is always a fun way to get a feel for the layout of the city and hear some history.
We had an awesome tour guide for the first leg of our trip. Melvin Bruce is a native Washingtonian in his 60s. He stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, at age 14, the day Martin Luther King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech and was brought to tears talking about John F. Kennedy’s memorial gravesite. He was a really sweet man and we enjoyed his tales of growing up in DC.
