Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Our co-op wrapped up our St. Patrick’s Day unit today 🙂
We began with a art project consisting of making a “puffy” shamrock (made with crepe paper squares) and writing an Irish blessing. Â Both were mounted onto construction paper. Â A couple of the children also drew pictures of St. Patrick on their projects. The Irish blessing reads, “May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow. Â And may trouble avoid you wherever you go.”
After our art projects were completed, we read a couple of books. Â I read Tim O’Toole and the Wee Folk, an Irish leprechaun tale, and one of the other moms read The Story of St. Patrick: Â More Than Shamrocks and Leprechauns.
While the children listened to the stories, they ate a yummy snack of “Rainbow Treats.” Â These are made with the recipe for “Rice Krispies Treats,” only Fruity Pebbles are used in place of the Rice Krispies. Â Aren’t they pretty? Â They were yummy, too!
Two weeks ago, we began our St. Patrick’s study and lapbook at co-op. Â With all of the fun things we had planned for today, we chose to finish the lapbooks at home. Â We used the St. Patrick’s Day lapbook from A Journey Through Learning, and because of it’s wonderful study guide, Ben was able to complete the lapbook independently! Â You gotta love that!
Here are a few other books we read during this study:
