I don’t know if you can count going to a Homeschool Convention as “fun” school, but Ben certainly had fun with me last weekend at The Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati . I was there for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, to share breakfast with the Homeschool Crew ladies attending.
We were only there on Thursday and Friday, but we packed a lot into our 2 days. As soon as we arrived, we met up with our roomie for the night, Sam, from Sam’s Noggin and had some lunch at Joe’s Crab Shack. We sat out on the deck and enjoyed the view from across the river in Newport, KY.
After lunch, we headed over to the get checked in at the convention and share dessert with our sweet friend, Amanda Bennett.
Thursday evening, we were excited to attend the conference’s keynote address by Gov. Mike Huckabee. The wait was long to get in (we were able to sit on the 4th row center!), so I was glad to have the iPad with us! Ben has always loved U.S. History and Government, and he remembers my ardent support of Gov. Huckabee in the last election. It was cool to get to see and hear him live and in person. I hope this is something he remembers for a long time!
On Friday morning, we had breakfast with our Homeschool Crew friends and then headed over to the vendor hall for awhile. I spent some time at the TOS booth and wandering the hall, talking with a few folks. Ben made some friends with the children of other vendors and had a grand (though I think somewhat mischievous) time.
We did sneak out Friday afternoon for a session to hear Jim Weiss was tell Sherlock Holmes stories. We have been huge fans of Mr. Weiss for years, so getting to meet him was super wonderful! Ben has been inspired to learn more about the art of storytelling, thanks to this wonderful storyteller. I’m working on putting together some lesson plans to make this a course for our homeschool.
After a few goodbyes, we headed back home, exhausted, but thrilled for the chance to be there.
What FUN have you had this week?
