A few weeks ago, I shared about Future Hope Ministries and their ministry to some former street children in Uganda. I say former, because gratefully through the efforts of Future Hope, these kids are being loved, nurtured, fed, educated, and taught about Jesus by Save Street Children Uganda and Pastor Innocent Byaruhanga .
You can read more about the story of my friends, Dr. Laura and Mark White, the founders of Future Hope, and how they are helping children in Uganda survive and thrive.
Future Hope Ministries is founded upon Isaiah 1:17. Their goal is to “protect, sustain, and equip children in impoverished areas, first in Uganda, and as God leads, in other part of the world.” {tweet that!} They are striving to break cycles of extreme poverty and hopelessness to empower a new generation to be self-sustaining adults, good parents, and the leaders their nations need. This is bringing justice to the fatherless.
Isaiah 1:17 in action.
Starting with 70+ children who are either orphaned or separated from parents who have either abandoned them or are unable to care for them in war-torn, HIV-ravaged Uganda.
One of the ways in which Future Hope is laboring to meet the expenses of caring for these kids is by offering the opportunity for child sponsorship. For the next 5 days, I will be sharing about some of the kids who are currently in need of sponsors to assist in meeting their basic needs — food, healthcare, and education. And for no other reason than to share that we wholeheartedly believe in this ministry, I’m sharing a photo of our own sponsored kids, Robert and Layton:
Aren’t they precious?
My prayer is that in sharing the stories of some of these wonderful children, many more of you will come to understand the dire need and ultimate blessing of helping children in Uganda {tweet that!} and will perhaps feel the nudge to sponsor one of them as well. Many of their stories are more heartbreaking than we can imagine. The young lives of these kids have been influenced by LRA rebels, sex trafficking, war, HIV, and other horrors our children will likely never see or experience. And yet they are joyful, hopeful, and have dreams just like your children, and mine.
This sponsorship program is special. You will have the opportunity to really get to know your child. You can exchange emails and pictures with them, receive updates on their education including grades, and any pertinent issues or prayer needs. And, if you like, you can send gifts to your child for their birthday or Christmas. You will become a very important part of your sponsored child’s life. You might even get to visit on a short term mission trip. Ben and I are hoping to travel in the next year to visit our kids.
Your sponsorship will provide an education for a vulnerable child–and that is the difference between life and death for many in Uganda. But more importantly, that relationship will give your sponsored child hope and the assurance that someone cares about them. You are encouraged to share your faith, and help them grow in theirs. Most importantly, you will have the honor and privilege of praying for your child!! (And, likely, being prayed for by him/her).
Let’s get started with today’s special little girl, Praise (don’t you just love her name? and look at those eyes!).
Nasasira Praise is 9 years old and in primary 4 (the equivalent of grade 4 in the U.S.). Her favorite subject in school is math. Praise is the third of five children. Her parents divorced and her mother was initially able to provide for their needs. But her mother developed a chronic illness, later diagnosed as HIV/AIDS. Her condition deteriorated to the point that she was unable to continue to care for her children. Praise was brought to SASCU by her grandmother. Praise is social and she enjoys fellowshipping in church (praising!).
You can sponsor Praise with monthly payments of $50, made through Paypal — so easy and automatic.
Won’t you consider sponsoring this precious child today?
