R is for Reviews.
I write reviews. A lot of them. Maybe you’ve noticed? 🙂
I’ve just begun my 3rd year with The Old Schoolhouse Magazine’s Schoolhouse Review Crew. It’s been a tremendous blessing being on the Crew. There are so many amazing products I never would have tried, or even known about, had it not been for the Crew opportunities.
I am very grateful.
Since it’s June, and I know many of you are in planning mode, and perhaps are out there wondering what you should look at to use for the upcoming school year, I thought I would share some of our very favorite review products of the past couple of years. Maybe you’ll find exactly what you were looking for, or maybe you’ll find that one item you didn’t even know you wanted!
So, here goes . . .
Bible/Apologetics: I was introduced to Apologia’s What We Believe series this year. The first book is titled, Who Is God. I actually won this book at a Twitter party last fall and we began using it immediately. Then a few months ago, we were sent Who Am I for review. This is THE best series of books to help your kids understand what they believe and why they believe it. Incredible. Truly.
Math: Y’all know math is the bane of my existence, right? Well, the one bright math spot we’ve had for the past couple of years has been this simple card game, Pyramath. Go check it out. It’s cool and Ben still loves playing it.
History: Looking for some hands-on stuff to add to history? Well, The Corps of Re-Discovery is an awesome company for that. We got to review their Fringe Pouch Kit, but several other items in their catalog are on our wishlist for the coming year!
Science: This is a tough category. Ben loves science, and we have been sent several incredible science products. I can’t narrow it down to just one, so go check out these 3: Christian Kids Explore Biology, Amazing Science and Discovery Scope.
Foreign Language: Visual Latin is a fun and entertaining way to learn Latin. We loved our time doing this review and Ben still loads the videos on his iPod to watch, just for fun!
Music: We love love love Maestro Classics. That’s all I have to say about that!
Writing: Write with WORLD, from the publishers of WORLD magazine is a new, innovative way to instruct your kids in creative writing. We loved it so much, it continues to be our main writing program.
Literature: Progeny Press was one of our favorite products last year. We were able to review the literature guide for The Bronze Bow. Great book. Great way to study it.
That should get you started. There are plenty more reviews to check out on my reviews page, too.
