He’s a boy.
He’s left-handed.
He’s easily distracted.
He’s also bright, imaginative, creative, dramatic, and loves to tell a story. He has an amazing vocabulary, can spell like a champion, and knows how to put words together in a fun and interesting way.
But he hates to write.
Geography? Loves it! History? Can’t get enough. Science? Lives for it! Math? Well….we won’t go there.
Next to math, writing has been the most frustrating part of our homeschool. So much so that, unlike math, I’ve pretty much skipped doing it for the most part. Better late than early, right? I’m staking my reputation as a stellar homeschool mom on that one.
But a few days ago, I had an epiphany. We’ve been learning about Canada for the past couple of weeks, enthralled with it really. I never knew our neighbor to the north was so interesting. Ben’s favorite part, of course, has been the native animals. And for some reason, we’ve both become huge fans of the beaver. So I assigned Ben an animal report. He chose the beaver. At first he was excited, until he found out it meant he had to write. Ugh!
So as I scoured the internet, looking for some simple, “how to write an animal report” instructions and maybe a graphic organizer or two, it occurred to me–maybe he could do more of a “presentation.” Power-point to be exact.
He loves it!
He doesn’t know he’s writing. Shhhhhhhhh–don’t tell him!
I’ll be sure to share as soon as he’s finished.
