Essential to Homeschooling: Eyes to See and Ears to Hear

Today, I want to share about something a little less tangible in homeschooling, but truly the most important component of our homeschool:

Eyes to see and ears to hear.

essential to homeschooling

 Allow me to explain.

I have shared before that when building a foundation for your homeschool, it is imperative to begin with Truth.

This is truth:

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. (Romans 1:20)

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)

Essential to our homeschool, our lives really, is understanding that two ways in which we know what is true are through what we can see in creation around us and what we hear through God’s Word.

This knowledge is partly what has led to our more delight-directed homeschooling approach as well.

When children are bathed in His Word and taught to revere His creation, then allowed the opportunity to explore where He is leading them, some pretty amazing things can happen.

They dive head first into the study of animals.

eyes to see

They become mesmerized by the night sky.

They long to learn about historical figures who were also faithful followers.

They devour books that are edifying.

In observing God’s creation, the outdoors becomes their classroom.

Even a clover blossom becomes interesting  (and beautiful!)

And Google Earth takes them on trips to far away lands.

With eyes to see and ears to hear, a homeschool is transformed not only into a place of learning how to read, write, and figure, it becomes life, inspired by Truth, and inspiring delight and passion in your children.

What is more essential than that?
