Friday Fun School (wedding style)

Dad was home  again this week, which generally means more chores than fun. However, if you will indulge me a bit, I will share one super fun thing we did this week. It wasn’t really homeschool — it was a wedding — but something cool happened while we were there witnessing this joyous union . . .

I’ve known Sarah since was 2 years old. She is precious to me, as is the rest of her family. We couldn’t wait to share in the joy of her special day. Ben loves weddings for the dancing part. And since this one was held as a ballroom dance studio, he was pumped!

The first thing Ben did when we got there was put in a song request to the DJ — Imagine by John Lennon. He dedicated it to Sarah. Yes, the boy has great taste in music. And I think he made an impression on the DJ. Because the next think I knew, the DJ was calling Ben up front . . .

As a part of the reception fun, the cake table contained 2 large glass jars, marked “bride” and “groom.” There was note on the table explaining that guests could put money in the jars to choose who would get “cake in the face.”

The DJ pretty much made Ben the Master of Ceremonies and accountant for this part of the reception. He was charged with both counting the money in the jars a few times during the evening and reporting to the guests who was most likely to get “cake in the face.” Let’s just say the child was in his element. He was a natural at this. And everyone seemed to enjoy it. He even came home with $20 in tips. Ha!

But this is my Friday Fun School post. Now, how to tie this into homeschool . . .

Math? He did count money several times.

Public Speaking? He spoke to 100 guests several times, giving updates about the amount of money collected, and making commentary on who he guessed would get the “cake in the face.”

History? You noticed that Ben Franklin in the Groom jar, right? (someone really wanted Willie to lose!)

Physical Education? I don’t have a picture of this part, but the boy danced. A lot.

Ok, so whether or not you are sold on counting this as Friday Fun School, you can’t deny that it was fun! And neither can we. It was a blast. And how cool to have a wedding date of 10-11-12. That might be the most fun part of all.

Except the part about the bride being in my wedding 15 years ago, when she was 8 years old 🙂 I don’t have a scanned photo of Sarah back then to share, but here is one of the gorgeous bride with us last night.

Ben’s hair might be the evidence I need for the P.E. credit!

Oh, and the groom lost. He got a lot of “cake in the face.” And then he cheated and so did the bride! Well, not a lot. But she did get some in the eye. But I won’t show you that. Here is a photo of the bride and groom without a hint of icing though.

Congratulations, Sarah and Willie. We love you so much!
