After our tour of Arlington National Cemetery, we reboarded our Tourmobile tram and headed over to the Lincoln Memorial.  It was already nearly 4pm by this time, so we didn’t have a lot of time.

Hopping off the tram at the Lincoln Memorial, and looking over toward the Washington Monument, we were shocked to see that the Reflecting Pool was mostly drained and really icky looking.  Ben was very upset by this for some reason.  I think he was just disappointed at not seeing the beautiful reflection in the pool.  Since it was about time for the Tourmobile to quit for the day, we took a quick peak at Mr. Lincoln and began the walk along the pool toward our Metro stop near the Smithsonian Castle.

It’s a long walk, but since I apparently have a fascination with photographing the Washington Monument, it was enjoyable.  Once we got to the other side of the Reflecting Pool, I was really happy we had taken this path.  There is now a monument in between the pool and the Washington Monument, remembering World War 2.  Although this memorial was dedicated 6 years ago, we have missed it on previous trips to DC.  It really is beautiful.

After spending about an hour here, we headed over closer to the Washington Monument and then to the Metro for a quick ride back to the hotel.  After our heavy 7-course meal last night, we opted for salad and fruit in the hotel for dinner.  It was a good day, with lots of remembering those who have given their lives for our freedom.  Ben is just finally at an age where he is beginning to understand.  I’m really happy that we have had this opportunity so close to Memorial Day.  I think it will make that day of remembering much more meaningful for us all.
