52 Books: Week One

We’re well into week 2 of the Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks challenge, but I got a bit of a late start. I’ll catch up by reading an extra book this weekend. For my first week, I have chosen Going Rogue: An American Life, by Sarah Palin.

I was anxious to read Ms. Palin’s book as soon as I heard she had written one. During the 2008 Presidential campaign, I found her interesting, funny, and charming…but I was unsure of her qualifications to sit second in command to the President of the United States. I had hoped, in reading her book, I would discover why John McCain had chosen, as his running mate, someone who’s name hardly anyone had ever heard spoken.
And I think I found that answer. In her memoir, you’ll find the serious side of Sarah Palin, the strong woman, with ambition and “good ole American values,” who rose from city council to small-town mayor to Governor of our largest state, and eventually to Vice-Presidential candidate. But you’ll also meet the funny, down-home, quick-witted Sarah Palin, who plays sports, hunts elk, and raises a family with her hunky, hard-working husband. You’ll meet a woman who is diligent, dedicated, and fierce in her love for her family, her state, and her country.
Yes, you will also hear some campaign gossip, and it is quite interesting, too. But in the end, you’ll know more about the woman John McCain believed capable, and maybe even why she should consider running for office again in 2012.
