Time for Friday Fun School!
For today, we have some fun things planned, if the impending bad weather doesn’t ruin it for us.
Ben begins a 6-week tennis camp today. He’s never taken tennis lessons, but has always wanted to. How cool that a local tennis club would provide this camp for homeschoolers!
We’re also planning to read The Lorax and then see the movie with our bestest friends. If you aren’t already aware (and I’m not sure how that possible), today is Dr. Seuss’ birthday. That’s the reason for the movie to be released today and for our other main Friday Fun activity.
In honor of The Lorax, we’re pulling from 2 of our favorite resources, NaturExplorers and Unit Studies by Amanda Bennett, to begin learning more about TREES, with Delightful Deciduous Trees (NaturExplorers) and Tremendous Trees (USAB-Download N Go). The weather has been so warm here, I’m hoping we’ll actually get to go outside and observe some trees for signs of spring. Of course, all of this wonderfully warm weather is the reason for the potentially bad storms tomorrow. Even if the weather is bad, we’ll be able to spend some time exploring trees with these units.
If time permits, we might even take Dad and go tree-shopping!
I thought I’d also share a few resources for those of you with younger children interested in an all-Dr. Seuss kind of day!
Check out these lessons plans for The Lorax at Homeschool Share for your little kids. And if you’d like to just make it a Dr. Seuss extravaganza, here are more where that came from.
You’ll find some free printables for fun with The Lorax for your slightly older kids on Ami’s blog, Walking by the Way. She also has links to other blogs with even more activities!
For your little Once-lers, the HSS blog is having a drawing contest where your kiddo can win his choice of a treasury of Dr. Suess books or a $25 gift card from www.amazon.com.
What fun are you adding to your Friday this week? Are you blogging about it? We’d love for you to link up below!
