A few weeks ago, my sweet friend Shanna was looking for someone to visit a local art studio where they hold group classes, lasting about 3 hours. Anyone of any skill or ability can show up at 7pm and leave at 10pm with a piece of art they have created.

I jumped at the chance!

You see, deep inside my soul I long to create. But I don’t really have any baseline giftings in art, and I’ve never taken an art class. The idea that I could bring home a piece of canvas that might actually resemble the painting it’s supposed to be was more than I could pass up.

We had so much fun!

Upon arrival, we found our stations all set up with a piece of canvas, sitting on an easel. After visiting the “paint buffet” where we were given instructions about what color and how much paint to pump onto our pallets, it was time to begin. An instructor stood at the front of the class and painted along with us, giving step-by-step instructions along the way. She was very patient and great about explaining and demonstrating each technique along the way. Of course, this means everyone (all 70 of us) painted the same scene (Rainy Day). The room was full of (mostly) girlfriends — chatting, drinking wine and creating art. It was such a great night.

Here are a few pictures from our evening. If you have an Uptown Art Uncorked Studio near you (or something like it), go, learn, create, take a girlfriend. Have fun.

P.S. I’m going back in 11 days with 3 more girlfriends. This time I get to paint a fleur de lis. You know I like those, right? (look up!)

I can’t wait!
