A is for Affiliate Links

I’ve been listening to a lot of chatter about Amazon and other affiliate programs lately. Many bloggers work very hard to write relevant, inspiring, informative, helpful blogs for their readers. I like to think I’m one of them.
To help supplement the time and effort it takes to keep a blog like that going, many bloggers make an effort to make a little money on the side by using affiliate links. While I try really hard not to make that obvious or the main event here at Ben and Me, I am one of those bloggers attempting to earn some pocket change to help support our homeschool/family budget.
But I’ll be honest with you — it’s a lot of work. For many of us, a job even. And we greatly appreciate your support.
I hope that doesn’t offend you. I’ve been hearing some chatter that it might offend some people that bloggers promote with affiliate links. And that makes me incredibly sad. You see, when you read about a product, service or book that interests you, and then click on an affiliate link to find out more, it really makes no difference for you. It costs you nothing at all to click on that link vs. an non-affiliate link.
But for the blogger who put forth the effort to share that product with you, it makes a huge difference, especially if you purchase the product.
I want you to know that apart from seamlessly using some affiliate links for products I would share with you anyway, a few ads over on my sidebar for products we regularly use in our home or homeschool, and keeping two static pages running — Kindle Freebies Daily and Weekly Homeschool Deals — most of what I do here has little to do with making money.
This blog is my humble effort to:
  • Record our homeschool journey.
  • Share my heart about ADHD and biblical parenting.
  • Write reviews for products I believe will interest you.
  • Give you helpful tips about how to save money, homeschool, and worship.
  • Somehow honor God in all of this, because it is because of Him I even do this.
This blog is my ministry, for such a time as this. There is little I love more (besides the obvious) than having the opportunity to share with other homeschool moms, mentor them even. It blesses me more than you can ever imagine.
So, while I will continue to make an effort to supplement our family income, please know that I will never compromise content in order to do so.
To those of you who seek out affiliate links when you’re shopping (mine or someone else’s), thank you. It blesses the blogger whose link you used. And for those of you who worry about clicking on affiliate links, it’s my hope you will have your anxiety about that quietened today. And in case you’re wondering, most companies do not allow affiliates to use their own links for purchases, so I always try to seek out the link of another affiilate when making a purchase.

A few someones are doing quite well with Amazon!

Be blessed, friends,

Disclosure

Ben and Me is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com. This site contains links from a number of other affiliate programs as well. If you click on these links and make a purchase, I may receive a commission. This does not cost you any more, and it helps cover costs associated with running the website. I am very picky about the products I recommend and the companies I support. I never recommend a product I would not use myself.
