This is blog entry number one recounting our recent trip to Washington DC, Mount Vernon, and Colonial Williamsburg. It was a business trip for hubby, but Ben, Whitney, and I tagged along for a sweet vacation! Tom flew in Sunday morning, and the other 3 of us drove half way on Saturday, spent the night in Weston, WV, then drove the rest of the way Sunday morning. We all arrived at the hotel within 10 minutes of each, so the timing was great!
As soon as we checked in, we hopped on the Metro and headed in to DC from Arlington, where we were staying.
We rode to the Smithsonian Metro stop, where we stopped to get a couple of family pics. A homeless woman was there offering to take pictures and giving away maps of The Mall area.
Once we were finished with the pics, the boys headed over to the Air and Space Museum and Museum of Natural History, while Whitney and I visited the Freer Art Gallery. It was so fun getting to do “girl stuff!” Tom and Ben didn’t have a camera (and we have tons of pics of Air and Space and Natural History from our last trip), so the pictures I have of the day are at Freer. Freer is a gallery of mostly Asian art collected by a Denver industrialist. There is also a collection of Whistler’s works as well, because he and Freer were friends. We viewed collections from China, Japan, Korea, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Korea, and several other places. It was really a beautiful gallery.
Since we got such a late start our first day, there wasn’t much time for anything else. So we just headed back to the hotel, Whitney and I did some grocery shopping, and we started planning our week…….
More to come…..
