I have a special friend to introduce to you today. Her name is Melinda and she is one of the most creative and talented people I know.
A couple of months ago, she sent a gift to me. When I opened the package to discover a beautiful necklace, handmade by her, I was mesmerized. I had never see anything like it. It was absolutely beautiful and contained the words to one of my favorite hymns — Amazing Grace. I immediately snapped a picture to share with my friends on Instagram. Because that’s what you do when you receive something so beautiful that you can’t wait to share!
No, that’s not my Instagram picture. This one is much better than mine.
I soon discovered that Melinda had added these beauties to her Etsy Shop — Minister’s Wife. Let me tell you a little bit about them, then I’ll share a couple more pictures.
Each hymn art is a reproduction digital print that Melinda created. She selected the “shape note” method for the notation, which is a style that became popular around 1850 and was used well into the 1900’s before it was replaced with the current notation style. The shape note method is found in most of the antique hymnals and is a great conversation piece. Not to mention really lovely.
Melinda’s necklaces are unique when compared to other hymn art necklaces (personally, I never knew there were other hymn art necklaces!) because, since they are are digital reproductions, she is able to select just the necessary words and scale the display to the proper size to create a centered and balanced piece of hymn art. Take a peak at this Because He Lives necklace:
Because He Lives was one of my favorites as a young Christian. There were some tough times in my growing up years, and I clung to these words.
The chain and the pendant tray are antique gold in color. The length of the chain is 24″ but is modified to fit at 19″, causing the pendant to rest just below the clavicle on most women. The extra chain length hangs down the back of the neck for an elegant style. (If you need the chain in a different size, Melinda can adjust to your liking)
This is what the necklace looks like on me:
The closure is a lobster-clasp.The pendant is glass and measures 1 inch x 2 inches. The total weight of the necklace is approximately 2 ounces. It does not feel heavy at all. It’s really a nice size, especially for someone like me who is not very dainty and doesn’t prefer dainty jewelry either.
I ordered a second necklace right after Melinda sent the first one. I just had to have one with my very favorite hymn — Joyful, Joyful . . . We Adore Thee. I love it so much. Another favorite is It Is Well With My Soul. In this image you can see the Hymn Art up close:
This font is the same font my Joyful Joyful necklace has. I just love it.
Don’t tell them, but I have ordered necklaces for my closest girl friends. All special ordered with their favorite hymns. You can do that, too — tell Melinda what your favorite hymn is and she will custom-make your necklace. She doesn’t even charge extra to do that.
Speaking of cost — Hymn Art Necklaces are very reasonably priced at $20 each with free shipping. They come packaged in a sweet organza bag. Melinda even includes a Hymn Art Magnet to each order (one per order), at no extra cost. You don’t need to do anything special for that; a magnet of her choosing will just arrive with your package.
These necklaces make the most wonderful gifts, so be sure to click over and visit Melinda’s Etsy Shop to see which ones you’ll want for the sweet ladies in your life. There are 11 there to choose from. And don’t forget, you can custom order at no extra charge.
