This week’s Friday Fun School centers around what else? Candy.
Our neighborhood goes all out for the kids on Halloween. It’s not so much about “halloween,” as it is about fellowship. You’ll find families walking and laughing together as their little treasures collect as much candy as their little pumpkins (or pillow cases!) will hold.
One house is affectionately called, “the hotdog house” because they grill out hotdogs and hamburgers, as well as make s’mores for anyone who wants to stop by. Ben stopped by 🙂
And he came home with enough candy to last all year long. Crazy!
What I realized as he dumped his candy on the floor and began sorting it was that we had some built-in math lessons right there. And you know I’m always on the hunt for some fun living math lessons.
Right away I saw estimating, graphing, fractions . . . so I quickly put together some fun worksheets and printed them off to use the next day. They were a hit. Not too terribly challenging for him, but a fun way to get some math in and give Ben a break from the routine. Or was that me that needed the break? I think it’s a toss-up.
You’re welcome to have the printables I created for Ben. You can download them by clicking on the graphic below. But hurry . . . before they eat all of the candy!
Feel free to share these with your friends, but please be kind enough to send them to this post instead of the direct link. Thank you!
