I’ve organized a Geography Fair for local homeschoolers. I will admit I’m a little disappointed. Originally, we had 22 families commit, but slowly over the past 2 weeks, more than half of those have backed out. I don’t get it. I strongly encouraged everyone to begin 3 months ago, working on a project a week or so, so that they wouldn’t find themselves exactly where most of them have…..waiting til the last minute and now unable to get it all together. It’s not fair to the children who have worked so hard on their projects not to have the Fair, so we will go ahead. And some time (probably as soon as it’s all over), I’ll get over being disappointed.
On to our project. We have been learning about China and will be presenting this interesting country in the Fair. Of course, we are doing it “unit study” style, so I thought I would share some of our resources. After the Fair, I’ll post some pictures of everyone’s displays.
The primary source for our unit study and our display is the Download-n-Go, Expedition China. It is the perfect set-up for a Geography Fair Project, broken up into sections that include: Inventions, Animals, Cities, History, Geographical Landmarks, and Missionaries. Ben is putting together a notebook, complete with Lapbook that will be on display. We’ll also use some of this information on our trifold display board.
Ben also completed a Giant Panda lapbook that will be on our table as well. This precious lapbook is free at Homeschool Share. Speaking of Pandas, after Christmas this year, I found this Panda and DVD from Plant Earth at Wal-Mart on clearance for $5. I bought several of them, and plan to have a drawing for one of them.
Some other items we’ll have displayed include tea, bamboo, fortune cookies, an abacus, and dominoes. We’ll also have a few of our favorite China books:
