We’re expecting snow in a couple of days; perhaps the first big snow of the winter season. That means a few things must be readied — hot chocolate mix must be made, coats, gloves, and scarves must be gathered, and the fireplace must be prepared for a warm fire.
Even at 16, Ben loves playing in the snow, and since he was a little boy, these are the things I’ve had ready for big snow days. In the past, I would have run to the grocery store for a box of those little packets of hot chocolate mix. You know the ones with the ingredient list that begins with corn syrup and ends with ingredients I can’t pronounce. With our attempts to improve our health came a new way to make hot chocolate. And it really is easier and quicker to make than a run to the grocery store.
Homemade Hot Chocolate
Ingredients

1 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
2 cups Powdered Milk
Directions
Sift the confectioner’s sugar and cocoa. Stir in the powdered milk, and whisk until combined. Add mini marshmallows, if desired.
To make hot chocolate, combine equal parts mix and hot water. (ie: ½ cup of cocoa mix and ½ cup hot water).
Store in airtight container in the pantry for up to 6 months.
