In our lives this week . . .
I spent the weekend with my best girlfriends at a retreat center. It was a weekend to renew, refresh, reflect, rest and read. I shared a devotional with the girls and we created these heart maps, too.
While I was gone with the girls, my husband called to tell me we had a major plumbing issue and sewer had backed up into our basement. Not so refreshing, right? Thankfully, the plumber was able to come quickly and although they had to dig a big hole in the backyard and it cost us about $1700 for them to do so, I am happy to say we can now flush (and shower).
This gorgeous bracelet arrived in the mail this week. I bought it to help support my friends adoption fundraising. If you’d like to buy some pretty bracelets, too, I shared more about that a couple of days ago.
I’ve enjoyed spending more time in the kitchen with Ben this week. We made cheesy potato soup and chocolate chip banana nut bread. You can download the recipes, if you’d like.
Speaking of yummy food, Ben was ecstatic to see that Dunkin’ Donuts was opening a new store in our neighborhood. We considered being there when they opened up at 5am, but Ben had a little trouble getting out of bed when the alarm went off at 4:30am. We are planning a little field trip there today though — you know, for Friday fun school!
I, on the other hand, was more excited to discover this new line of reasonably-priced organic food at our Kroger!
Homeschooling went well this week — fairly routine and we’re finally getting back into a groove. I wanted to share one lesson we did from SchoolhouseTeachers.com. Kim Kautzer (WriteShop) is the writing teacher over there, and this month’s lesson was learning how to write a diamante poem. Now, I had never even heard of a diamante poem, so this was a great learning experience for both of us. Here’s Ben’s poem made into a little word art. He was very proud!
P.S. SchoolhouseTeachers is having a great special right now. You can join for one year for just $49 and there are free gifts, too. There are about 25 teachers, all kinds of subjects, for all ages. Check it out!
As you can see, we’ve had a good, productive week. How was your week?
