I’ve reached day 10 of the fast! This was my initial goal, to fast for 10 days. I decided on day 4 that I could do this for 40 days, and I plan to do just that.
Last night, the smell of my son’s warmed up, leftover pizza just about made me crazy. I kept telling myself it’s just a scented candle — pizza-scented. While it would have been easy to take a bite, or eat a whole piece, I knew in my heart the I would realize today it was not worth it. I didn’t not want to have those kinds of regrets.
I’m realizing as I go on that I need to address the spiritual aspects of fasting as well. I’m busy gathering Scripture to meditate on and pray during those times of weakness. Fasting is a great time to grow your relationship with Christ. When I am weak, He is strong. If I do not lean on him and gain strength from him, I will not make it 40 days, of that I am sure.
In a few days, I’ll share which verses I’ve found and more of the spiritual side of fasting.
I think today will be my last daily update. From this day going forward, I will just come back to share new thoughts or lessons I’ve learned, new recipes I’ve tried and of course the every 10 day weigh-in.
Speaking of which . . . I did finally weigh myself today. Are you ready for this?
I lost 9 lbs! Add that to the 8 lbs. I lost before I started and I am now down 17 lb. since January. That’s just crazy to me. But I am very grateful for this nice jump start into losing weight. Once I’ve lost another 13 lbs., I will be back at the point I was 2 years ago when I lost 50 lbs. Only this time, I won’t gain 30 of it back, right? Right!
I do want to share one more thing with you. I’m planning on starting a container garden to grow some of my own vegetables and herbs this summer. I recently became aware of this new company, started by a fellow homeschool family, and am working on my seed order now.
If you’re planning to grow your own garden, be sure to check them out!
