I’ve been thinking a lot about 2011–mostly about how to make it different, better. I’ve also been thinking a lot about contentment. I find myself saying things like, “I wish…,” “if only…,” “what if….,” far too often.
It’s so much easier to wish things were different than it is to make the effort to change those things that need changing.
So as this new year begins, it is my hope plan to take the necessary steps toward a life filled with contentment, rather than “what if’s.”
Step #1: The Bible. I’ll be taking the read the Bible in 90 Days challenge–with Ben. Why a challenge? For no better reason that because we were challenged by Nana to do so, using the Egermeier’s Bible Story Book she gave to Ben for his baptism. But the real reason is because daily Bible reading is a desire I have for myself as well as Ben. So we will begin each day with this challenge, in the hopes that after the 90 days are up, we’ll have such contentment from reading the Bible, we’ll both want to continue beginning our day in this way.
Step 2: Gratitude. What better way to find contentment in your life than to fill your mind with all you are thankful for? So each Monday, I’ll be listing, here on my blog, those things for which I am most grateful that week, in the hopes I can name 1000 things. Don’t expect anything terribly profound. Some days I’m just thankful for sweet tea!
There will more steps forthcoming….this is just the beginning!
If you would like to join me in either the Bible in 90 Days Challenge or the Thousand Gifts Gratitude Community, I’d love to share these with you. You might enjoy Ann Voskamp’s book, A Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are. I’ll be reading it as well.
