Every spring when I was a little girl, my grandmother often cut fresh roses, hydrangeas, peonies, and other flowers from her garden to use as a centerpiece on the kitchen table. The scent of these beautiful blooms filled the room. I loved that scent.
What I didn’t love was the sneezing. Flowers make me sneeze. It doesn’t seem to make a difference which flowers. If they have a strong aroma, I’m going to sneeze. A lot. Like constantly.
But you know what? Floral-scented essential oils do not make me sneeze at all. So now I can have the delicious scent of fresh-cut flowers without taking allergy medicine or having to diffuse an allergy blend (2 drops each of Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint).
I’ve created a lovely floral scented blend, I think you’ll love as much as I do. And the big bonus? No sneezing and no wilted (read: dead) flowers in a week. Just pure floral bliss. Well, almost pure. You may be surprised to see a citrus oil in this blend.
Citrus essential oils are a great base for floral blends. They help ground it and add just a little something special. For this one, I chose sweet orange, but you could use tangerine, bergamot, or neroli. Sweet orange just happens to be one of my all time favorite oils. I know it may seem strange, but your floral blend will explode if you make it with twice as much of the citrus as the floral essential oils. The floral cents are very powerful, so don’t worry . . . the citrus will not overpower it!
Spring Flowers Essential Oil Blend for Diffuser or Body Spray
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Ylang Ylang
1 drops German Chamomile
5 drops Sweet Orange
Directions
Add to the water in your diffuser and diffuse intermittently throughout the day.
You can also make a lovely body spray by adding the oils to a mixture of 3 oz distilled water or a floral hydrosol (such as lavender or rosehip) and 1 Tbsp vegetable glycerin (use a 4 oz glass spray bottle). Be sure to shake well.
Now, take a deep breath and enjoy your flowers! And feel free to mix and match different floral blends. The possibilities are endless! Just don’t forget your citrus!

Precautions
Never use essential oils undiluted, in the eyes or mucus membranes. Do not ingest unless working with a qualified practitioner. Keep essential oils away from children. If applying an essential oil to your skin always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body (after you have properly diluted the oil in an appropriate carrier oil).
