Perhaps you’ve recently purchased a starter kit from a friend in the EOs business, but you’re wondering if there is a more economical option. Whatever your reason for needing more information, I think you’ll find what you need to know here.
If you start looking around as you shop, one of the first things you may begin to notice is that you can buy essential oils most anywhere today. Big retail stores such as Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Whole Foods, Amazon, or your local health food stores sell essential oils. You also have many options for purchasing oils from online sites such as Plant Therapy, Rocky Mountain Oils, and just to name a few. Another option is through direct sales companies such as Young Living or doTERRA.
It’s clear to see that there are many places where you can buy essential oils. You don’t have to look very hard to find them and, with the growing popularity of essential oils, the list of places to buy them will surely keep growing as well. Therefore, the real question becomes, where should you buy your essential oils? To answer that question, you need to know what to look for.
When using essential oils in aromatherapy, you need good quality, pure oils. Pure oils provide all of the therapeutic benefits associated with essential oils and they’re much safer to use. Therefore, you should only do business with a company that you trust to provide good, dependable information.
When choosing where to buy your essential oils, find the answers to the following questions:
How long has the company been in business? Are they well established or is it a company you’ve never heard of before? While there are new companies popping up all the time, some of which are trustworthy, many of them disappear as fast as they appeared and are not reputable dealers, so you do have to be careful.
What kind of reputation do they have? Ask friends and family if they’ve ever done business with the company you are considering, and what kind of experience they had. Read reviews and check to see if any complaints have been filed against the company. Talk to customer service to see what kind of response you get when you ask questions.
What is their specialty? For example, if the company specializes in essential oils, then they should know what factors constitute a good quality oil. On the other hand, if they only sell essential oils to stock their inventory, they may not have any idea of what’s really in those little bottles of oil and, therefore, neither do you.
What information can you find on their website? This is important because most reputable dealers will provide potential customers with a wide array of information to help make their essential oils experience a pleasant one. The information you’ll want to know includes Latin names, safety, contraindications, use with children, constituents, possible uses, and GC-MS (chemical testing for purity) results.
In addition to learning all you can about the companies selling essential oils, you also need to determine how you’re planning to use them. Once you have researched the different companies and narrowed down your options, there are few factors to consider that may help you determine which store has the best quality.
Since you don’t actually know where the oils you buy come from originally, you have to trust the company is being honest when they say they have pure, high-quality essential oils. However, the definition of pure varies considerably from one company to the next, so you need to know what to look for when choosing your supplier.
Once you become an experienced essential oil user, you may be able to tell if the oil is high quality by smelling the aroma. Until then, check the grade of the oil and look for the Latin name on the bottle. Essential oils should come in dark-colored, glass containers to protect the integrity of the oil and information on how to use each one safely should be included. These are indicators that you may have found a good company that sells high-quality essential oils.
