Over the next few weeks, I plan to introduce my readers to some juicy friends, as they write some guest posts for the blog, sharing their ideas, knowledge and experiences with you. Today, please welcome Tauna!

Juicing.

If you want to up your intake of fruits and veggies, juicing may be for you. Have you wanted to incorporate fresh juices in to your diet, or perhaps even try a juice fast?

The thing is, not all of us have a juicer.

Perhaps we can’t afford it or aren’t yet convinced we’ll keep using it over time. Then there are the ones like me who used to have one and couldn’t handle the extra space and cleaning it required. Just thinking about it makes me twitch. It’s ok – we all have our limitations.

Well, my fellow seekers of health, there is good news —

You can make juice without a juicer!

I know, right? I’m excited about it too.

To juice without a juicer, all you need is a blender or food processor and a way to strain the juice from the pulp.

Blending

Any old blender will do, but the better quality the blender and the longer you process, the finer the blend and the more nutrients you’ll extract. (This is different than with making veggie smoothies, where you process as little as possible)

Cut your produce into pieces small enough for your blender to easily handle. You may need to add a bit of cold water for low-moisture produce.

Straining

To strain out the pulp, use a fine mesh strainer set over a bowl or jar. Pour your blended produce in and stir and press with a spoon until only pulp is left in the strainer.

Don’t have a fine-mesh strainer?

Try a cheese cloth or milk nut bag. Set the cloth in a bowl and pour your blended creation into it. Gather the pulp into a ball inside the cloth and squeeze out all the liquid.

Pour your liquid gold into a glass and enjoy your fresh made juice!

Blender vs. Juicer

Blending adds more oxygen to your drink than a juicer would, so the nutritional value decreases more rapidly over time. In other words, drink your blended juice as soon as you can!

Want to skip the straining process?

Go for it! I actually prefer drinking blended smoothies and veggie drinks to juices, but there are proponents on both sides. My take: do both!

So, what’s better: juicing or blending?

That is another post for another day, my friends. If you can’t take the suspense, this article by Prolific Juicing does a good job of summarizing both sides of the great debate.

Whether you’re blending or juicing today, enjoy drinking your greens!
