30 Days of Prayer for Our Kids begins today!

I issued a challenge a few days ago on this very blog, for parents to commit to praying for their kids every day of the month of April according to the Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes model described by Tricia Goyer in the book, Lead Your Family Like Jesus.

I’m also giving one of you who leave a comment letting me know you are joining me an opportunity to win this inspiring book (be sure to click over here to leave your comment, so you can have a chance to win, too). I’m excited to see that quite a number of you are taking this opportunity to shore up your prayer time for your children. This is such an important and blessed thing you are doing.

I know that we are all going to be amazed by what God will do in the lives of our families for the month of April because of our desire to honor Him by leading our children like Jesus.

I created a few graphics I wanted to share with you today. They are reminders of how to pray for the head, shoulders, knees and toes of our kids. Each also has a Scripture reference to go along. Nothing is more powerful than praying Scripture over our kids. I love to do this by inserting Ben’s name into the Scripture. I’ll give you some examples below.

I encourage you to get into the word, seek out these verses, write them down, memorize them, and most importantly pray them over your kids. You can just click on each image below, if you’d like to print them out or, for your convenience, I have provided the verses, sample prayers and images in a downloadable PDF at the end of this post.

I can’t wait to hear how your family changes over the next month. If you have not already found my Facebook page for this blog, here is a link for you. I’ll be talking more about this challenge there and I would love for you to join the discussion over there.

Praying for your child’s head —

But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. (Psalm 3:3)

Heavenly Father — You are a shield around Ben, his glory, the One who lifts his head high. I pray in Jesus name this will always be true for my boy.

Praying for your child’s shoulders —

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. (Psalm 55:22)

Dear God — I pray that Ben will always cast his cares on You, knowing that you will sustain him, for you never let the righteous be shaken. In Jesus name, I pray this prayer.

Praying for your child’s knees —

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (James 4:8-10)

Dear Father in Heaven — I pray that Ben will always rest in the knowledge that you will come near to him as he stays near to you. I pray that his hands and heart will stay pure in your sight. I pray that he will fall to his knees often in grief for his sin and repent, that he will be always be humble before you, knowing that you will lift him back up.

Praying for your child’s toes —

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.  But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.  We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. (Hebrews 3:12-14)

Father God — I pray that Ben will never have a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from you, the living God. I pray that he will encourage others and be encouraged by others daily so that he will not be hardened by deceitfulness. I pray that he will always keep the company of believers who will hold him accountable, sharing in Christ, holding on to his conviction firmly to the end of his life.
