What a great week to talk about nature! In the past couple of weeks, we have had some fun exploring nature!
A couple of weeks ago, when we visited Lincoln’s Birthplace, we stopped first at a lovely park across the street for lunch and a hike on the trails there. We weren’t expecting a nature walk, so the only tool we had to record our findings was my camera:
Spring and Summer are our favorite times of year for nature study. Whether you grab your nature notebook and some colored pencils and draw the trees and flowers in your yard, head down to the creek, or find fun activities to do on vacation, capturing it all with your camera, nature study is literally there just outside the back door, any day of the week.

And finally, here’s a review of a cool tool we use for all of our nature study now — Discovery Scope. You can see Ben using the scope on the left. He’s looking at a clover bloom. On the right is a capture of what can see through the scope, taken with my iPad camera. Ben has been looking at everything with this tool!
