Two months ago our family traveled to Washington DC….by car. Last year we traveled to Arkansas for a wedding…..by car.  For each trip I packed Ben’s backpack with a few things to keep him occupied for the 10-12 hours we would be spending in the car.  I included things like audio books, picture books, music, an activity book with pencils and crayons, his Leapster, and a few other things I found at the dollar store.  Within 2 hours he had seen, played with, and listened to it all and began the age old question, “are we there yet?”

I wish I had read the ebook, Travel Kits:  A Simple Way to Bless Others, carried in the online store at The Old Schoolhouse.  Had I read this book, I would have had the tools to make each trip fun, memorable, and so much less stressful!

The author of this 93-page ebook, Donna Rees, has taken the “backpack in the car” idea to a new level.  With creative ideas for themed travel kits, as well as ideas for how each item should be wrapped, stored, and presented, traveling with young children will never be the same.  Actually, you could use these ideas for your older children as well.  Or even college students. In fact, you could bless a friend, neighbor, babysitter, or relative with a travel kit for a vacation, the trip back to college, the ride home after visiting you, or frequent visits to the doctor.

My favorite idea, and the one I wish I had thought of myself for our last two long car trips, was to have enough items in the travel box to open one new prize every 30 minutes of the trip.  This was how I had failed miserably.  Had I had enough items, all wrapped up and marked 1-20, Ben wouldn’t have seen everything all at once and been bored just 2 hours into our trips. Pure genius, isn’t it?

There are ideas for all sized cars, different aged children, boys, girls, and different price ranges.  So, you are sure to find ideas in this book to make your next travel day more peaceful, whether you are driving across country or closer to home.

At a cost of $12.45, Travel Kits is a steal for all of the joy it will bring to your family and friends when you surprise them with their very own travel kit, made especially for them, from your heart.

You can learn more about Travel Kits, and see samples of this ebook in The Old Schoolhouse Store.  To read more reviews from the TOS Crew, check out our blog.
